This paper is an introduction to the creation of web content through understanding the core technologies of the web. Web design concepts will be introduced for the effective use of text, images and interactivity. Students will be introduced to relevant computing concepts through practical exercises which lead to a final project.

Students will be able to receive online help for laboratory practical work (including verification) and the Project.

Manuals of course notes are provided as PDFs available in Moodle. The course notes are by no means comprehensive. You are expected to find any additional relevant material (e.g. online help, examples from the Internet, reference books) yourself.

Students should be checking Moodle on a regular basis (at least twice a week). Announcements will be made weekly, lecture notes posted, and materials made available via the COMPX161 Moodle page. Students are expected to check their email regularly. Student queries can be posted via the Moodle forums.

Students can also email the tutor. All emails should have the paper number (COMPX161) in the subject line. We aim to answer email within one business day. When using Moodle messages to contact tutors ensure you mention COMPX161 in the message text (as Moodle does not do this automatically).

This paper is worth 15 points and so you should expect about 150 total study hours or about 11-12 hours per week.

There is 1 lecture (or equivalent for 2020) and 3 hours of supervised labs per week; so students are expected do several hours of unsupervised labs/reading/preparation each week.
